Hot milk

Here is a picture of some Jersey cows. It is apt to share them today, when the official temperature on the island reached 37.9°, and locally 40°.
The Jersey cow has a remarkable ability for heat tolerance, and as a result of this has shown fantastic integration qualities when crossbred with native sub Saharan breeds in order to increase milk yields. (More on the “slick” gene in another post.)
Through their integration in to dairying systems their efficiency can lower greenhouse gas emissions, while increasing milk yields from 1-2 litres a day to 6-12 litres a day (in the right conditions).

Becky Houzé (who’s cattle these are) has been at the forefront of driving efficiency through technology in the dairy space, and the evolution of dairy farming is presenting huge opportunity in the investment space I am building on thanks to Jersey Overseas Aid and Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society.
